Unable to add more data to my server.

(SOLVED)I have had my server for a few months now and I have been steadily adding media to it. Until today when my first disk in my array of 4 filled up and now I am unable to add any more media.

I have my Split level set to 2, if this is wrong please correct me. I have been reading all the posts and I cant seam to find an answer.

Thanks for the help.

I have tried changing the split level to 1,4 and nothing seams to change.

Should my media just spill over into the other disks. I even tried to add include all 4 disks and still no change.

what is your allocation method?

This is what I have just changed it to.

Share name:  Media

Comments:  Media Tower

Allocation method:  High-water Most-free Fill-up

Min. free space:  Blank

Split level:  10 as of now

Included disk(s):  disk1,disk2,disk3,disk4

Excluded disk(s):

Export (SMB):  Export read/write Export read-only Export read/write, hidden Export read-only, hidden Don't export

This is what I had it at when I posted the Issue.

i thought that maybe it was 'fill up' and the min free was set too small.

but 'high water' should always work.

have you tried explicitly writing to the 'disk2' share for example (just to see if you can write to it).

since i dont know the structure of your data, you might want to try a split level of 9999 to ensure any level can go on any disk.

does the server need to be restarted for these changes take effect?

good luck,

steve

Yes I did check to see if I could write directly to disk2.  Work no problems. Sense I changed my split level to 10 I am able to continue adding files. I am stil a littl estumped as to why it filled disk1 all the ay up. I was under the assumtion that high water would only use half the disc and move and so fourth.

that partly depends on the structure of your data & the split level value.

for example a split level of 1 when all of you data resides under the same 1st & 2nd level directory would result in this behavior (ie all of the data going to the one disk).

if you dont care about co-locating data on the same disk, then set the split level to some arbitrarily high number (that exceeds your greatest directory depth). you should then see the data spread across your disks as you had oriiginally expected.

good luck,

steve
