May 29, 20242 yr Since a few weeks, every time I've mounted my drives, my server works completely normally, usually for an hour or two, and then abruptly turns off. I've been testing and if I just turn the server on and leave it without mounting drives, it can run for days with no issue. But if I mount the drives, or start it in maintenance mode, it will always abruptly shut down after a while. I cleaned the internals and replaced thermal paste in case the CPU was overheating, but it made zero difference. Drive temps max out at about ~50 C when running a parity check. I'm attaching the tower diagnostics but there's no info from previous shutdowns in here. I've tested this however on 4 different unclean shutdowns with logging to flash turned on - every time the log just abruptly ends with no info on the server attempting to shut down, then it picks up again after I restart it, so it's confirmed that it's always a sudden abrupt shutdown. What's the first course of action worth taking to try and get this issue fixed? Is it more likely for something else to be overheating, or maybe I should try replacing the PSU? tower-diagnostics-20240529-0531.zip Edited May 29, 20242 yr by array_enjoyer

I replaced the PSU but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the culprit. Upon further inspection I think the CPU fan is working kind of "wonky" so next thing I will try is replacing the cooling. Perhaps with no disks mounted it doesn't get as hot, but when it starts writing data everything heats up more and the cooling can't keep up. If that fixes it I will write for any future people who have a similar issue.
June 10, 20242 yr Author Solution Update: It was indeed faulty cooling. The CPU would start working but the fan would keep starting and stopping after a while and the CPU would overheat > instant shutdown. Replacing the CPU fan fixed the problem.
