jpimlott Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 My 4.7 unraid box was running happily along and then one of the drives failed (disk 4). It did it about 3 weeks ago. I removed it and put it back and rebuilt parity and was working great This morning it did it again, disk 4 failed. So I stopped it and moved to a different sata port. When I restarted it drive number 8 failed completely and will not start. It sits on it during post for a about a minute then during unraid bootup it tries to use the disk but cant and fails. Disk 4 is a working disk but unraid thinks it is bad as it was a disk disable before i shut it down. Is there a way to make the system think disk 4 good again and simulate disk8 ? Thanks John
jpimlott Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 More questions I believe one of the drives is good. I will bite the bullet and pay 170 for a new drive (ouch) to replace the known bad drive (drive . During the power on self test it waits till the timeout then continues on. Unraid does not see the drive as working. Unraid right now has drive 4 as not installed. This drive was working but fell out of the array. When unraid is started it sees that drive as available to add to the array to replace the drive 4 slot. I think i need to tell unraid that drive 4 is good. No major changes were done to drive 4. It should when in the middle of the night. Drive 8 needs a rebuild from parity. How do I tell unraid to use drive 4 as is ? John edit I added syslog after a boot replacing dead drive 8. I still to enable disk 4 and use parity to rebuild drive 8 after the preclear v syslog-2011-12-29.txt
jpimlott Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 New drive for disk 8 is precleared and ready to go. The syslog is in the second post. How do I make disk4 live again since it is intact and available. No changes were written to since it failed that I care about. I want use all the drives and parity to rebuild drive 8. Right now both 4 and 8 are showing as missing. help john
