GameDetective
I am 53 years old and I am very new to this server world. I just recently built one and decided to use UNRAID as the OS... I am in the trial version now trying to get everything setup. The issue: I found SpaceInvaderOne on YouTube, and he has a ton of good information on UNRAID. The container I started with was Pihole and followed his steps on the video, using the custom bridge to assign an IP address within my network. After hitting Apply to accept all the settings in the Template, it switched screens to download the Pihole image. All I received was the string of moving periods until it timed out, letting me know the image was not downloaded. Then it timed out a second time letting me know it could not find the image file locally. Thinking this was an isolated issue, I tried the same thing with Plex and FreeFileSync. The same thing above with Pihole happened with these two images. For some reason the image files will not downloading. I know the server is reaching the internet because prior to this I downloaded the Community Applications plugins and all that goes with it prior to the docker issue. They all downloaded and installed just fine. I checked the Docker tab, and it shows there are no Docker containers installed, yet you can click on add container and see the templates for the above in the drop down list. I use Obsidian to keep track of my IP addresses on my network and came up with a list of addresses to use for each container I would be installing. All Docker Applications were located and installed from the APPS tab in UNRAID according to SpaceInvaderOne, henceforth SIO. I went into Settings and clicked on Docker to reveal it is running. There is something not allowing the image to download, and I cannot figure out what it is. SIO’s video on this install is several years old but largely applies. I did notice there have been several updates to UNRAID and some items on the current UNRAID menu are not the same as SIO’s version when he installed the Docker container for Pihole. I searched and searched online to see if anyone else was having this issue. I even did a search through Google in the UNRAID Forums and Reddit to see if anything would hit and found nothing. I am at a loss here and have nothing else to pull out of my hat for a trick. I am hoping someone out there knows what is causing this. Solved Issue: Well, I finally found a solution to my own problem with the issue I was having. About 7 years ago, I set up a Pihole on my network using a PiZero. I use and still use a Linksys WRT 1900ac router. I remember back then that I set some parameter in the DNS within the router when I followed the online guide. The PiZero took a dump one day and quit working, so I disconnected it and never gave a thought about removing the DNS entries. Around that time, I set my router up on Linksys SmarWiFi, so it could be accessed online if I wasn’t home. I never used this feature and forgot about it as well. Over time, I noticed it was taking much longer to access the router via the IP address. Recently, I began trying to get into the router and I was only able to get to the Linksys SmartWiFi sign in page. Once signed in, the background for Linksys would change and I could never reach the user interface so I could take a look at the settings. It appeared to be hung or timing out trying to reach the user interface. No matter what I did, refresh, reboot, and unplug and restart I could not reach the settings page of the router. Today I got pissed and disconnected the router and performed a hard reset to factory settings. I connected it to my computer and was able to set up the router with fresh settings. I also logged back into the Linksys SmartWiFi. I noticed that even with the fresh restart, I was still not able to reach the main router page to change settings. I got to watch the spinning wheel again with no results. Did another hard reset and skipped the Linksys SmarWiFi to directly access the router via the IP address only. Boom, this worked. I can now access the router any time with no delays. The lesson I learned is to not use Linksys SmartWiFi web based access. Here is what I learned: 1. Linksys SmarWiFi is trash, and I recommend no one use it. 2. It slows your access to the router to a crawl because it is web based going through their service. 3. In most cases, you never even see any of the user interface to be able to select options within the router. 4. On a few rare occasions, I was able to reach the user interface but couldn’t do anything because the selected screen would never load. Once I got past his horse crap, I got my entire network working smoothly once again. I got all the IP addresses touching the router identified. I went back into UNRAID, loaded the Pihole Template and it downloaded and installed flawlessly. I believe there were two things that prevented the Docker containers from downloading. The use of Linksys Smart WiFi was interfering with the operation, along with whatever DNS entries I made and never cleared with the old Pihole I was using. I am now up and running. Thank you to everyone that reached out to assist with this issue. Turns out it was my own dumb fault. Lesson learned. Edited July 3 by GameDetective Quote Link to comment
Vr2Io
It still look like network setting issue, pls provide setting -> docker page screen dump for ref. Also ensure the setting were correct. Quote Link to comment
GameDetective
I am very new to this level of server manipulation. I did go into settings and opened the Docker screen. Not sure if it is a page dump or not. I saw nothing specific to that. However, after opening advanced view, I did see this: IPv4 custom network on interface br0 Subnet: , Gateway: , and DHCP pool: not set. That is all that is listed unless I need to go somewhere else to get this information. The subnet is showing my router IPnumber/24 and the gateway is showing just my router IP address. If there is a way to change the addresses, I am not familiar with how to do so. I know it is probably frustrating dealing with a n00b like me. I am determined to learn this stuff and I do appreciate the help a lot! Quote Link to comment
