July 7, 20241 yr Hello fellow unraiders, disk approx, one month old, precleared before adding into array, was disabled and content emulated. It happened during its first monthly parity check. Fine, no big deal, I will replace it, or RMA it. Sure, I can change SATA cable. No harm to my data, as all important data are backup-ed to offsite spare unraid server. Odd thing is that I cannot perform/nor see SMART report data. I want to understand possible reasons. I would like to ask for your opinion please here. Thank you very much. Also to mention disk is now available under unassigned disks, it can be formatted or precleared, I have not done any of those. It all started with these messaged in logs: Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: ata5.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: ata5.00: cmd 60/40:f8:b0:17:5d/05:00:06:00:00/40 tag 31 ncq dma 688128 in Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: res 43/40:40:28:18:5d/00:05:06:00:00/00 Emask 0x409 (media error) <F> Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY SENSE ERR } Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: ata5.00: error: { UNC } Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: ata5.00: configured for UDMA/133 Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: sd 6:0:0:0: [sdd] tag#31 UNKNOWN(0x2003) Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=DRIVER_OK cmd_age=5s Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: sd 6:0:0:0: [sdd] tag#31 Sense Key : 0x3 [current] Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: sd 6:0:0:0: [sdd] tag#31 ASC=0x11 ASCQ=0x4 Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: sd 6:0:0:0: [sdd] tag#31 CDB: opcode=0x88 88 00 00 00 00 00 06 5d 17 b0 00 00 05 40 00 00 Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 106764328 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x0 phys_seg 153 prio class 2 Jul 1 01:14:47 unraid kernel: md: disk2 read error, sector=106764264
July 7, 20241 yr Community Expert It's logged as a disk problem, and the disk is not even giving a valid report, so probably failed, to rule that out swap cables with a different disk and post new diags.
July 7, 20241 yr Author Hi JorgeB, SATA cable was replaced with a brand new one. Attached diagnostics. Seems to me that the disk is dead. unraid-diagnostics-20240707-2042.zip
