July 7, 20241 yr Hi folks, running UnRaid 6.12.9 on a realtek RTL8125 integrated NIC. Just recently, whenever my router goes through its weekly scheduled reboot UnRaid fails to reconnect. ASUS router/gateway reboots at 3am, ASUS router set up as access point the server is physically attached to reboots at 3:05am. Log and diagnostics attached. I'm hoping there's a different solution than scheduling UnRaid reboots to match, or getting a different NIC :) Jul 7 03:05:39 BirdsNAS kernel: r8169 0000:03:00.0 eth0: Link is Down Jul 7 03:05:39 BirdsNAS kernel: bond0: (slave eth0): link status definitely down, disabling slave Jul 7 03:05:39 BirdsNAS kernel: device eth0 left promiscuous mode Jul 7 03:05:39 BirdsNAS kernel: bond0: now running without any active interface! July 7, 20241 yr Community Expert You have a static IP address setup on your Unraid server. Have you set up the router so that it 'knows' about your server (MAC address and Network Name) and its assigned IP address?
July 7, 20241 yr Author Yes, the router's DHCP server has the UnRaid machine's MAC statically assigned It may be worth noting that I'm waiting for a Pi Zero to arrive that I'm going to be running PiHole on and planned on using it for a DHCP server, I hate using the Asus router software for DHCP assignment and I've got a bunch of ESPhome devices that don't really like having their IPs set through the yaml. July 7, 20241 yr Community Expert I always try to avoid using the router as a switch. I use a separate twenty port switch with a single connection from that switch to the router. Double check to see if the port is active after router reboot by observing the status lights on both the server and switcher ends.
July 7, 20241 yr Author I'll try to check that out, so far I've been offsite every time this has happened so I've had to remotely power cycle the server which I really really don't like doing. I'm pretty sure the problem is on the server though, I have about 40 devices on my network and this is the only one thats not coming back online
July 7, 20241 yr Community Expert Just to let you know that I have never experienced this problem with either of my Unraid servers. I have had Windows PC's not reconnect and have to be rebooted on a few occasions when the power went out long enough to take the router down but not long enough for the UPS's to shut the PC's down. (There is a possibility that since you have a static IP reservation on the router for that MAC address that if you change the server to DHCP that the router will automatically assign that address to the server. I have heard other folks say that type of setup works just fine. But all routers are different...)
