January 28, 201214 yr My unRAID server has been running for days doing preclears on a couple of drives and then a parity sync and check on my newly added parity drive in my 5GB array. Life was good and I was about to put it on a shelf and just let it do it's thing; then I had to power down because I decided to put in a cache drive. Now the BIOS won't even post. No beeps, no BIOS screen, nothing at all. MB and CPU power cables have been reseated. I tested with and without RAM (got the no RAM beeps and RAM is good - passed memtest a couple of days ago). I removed the CMOS battery and am waiting 30 minute for CMOS to clear. I guess I could try another PSU, although the only one I have laying around out of a computer has dual 12v rails, I suppose it would be sufficient to see if I can even get to a BIOS screen. If CMOS clear and a different PSU show the same result, I guess I can try a BIOS recovery on the MB. After that, I am out of ideas. Stupid BIOS/MB/PSU or whatever the culprit is. Some days I just hate computers!!!
January 28, 201214 yr Did you unplug all drivers from power supply ? I had short at drive and motherboard would not post. Check over power connectors those new sata power have bigger potentioal for shorting

January 28, 201214 yr Author Man, my timing is lousy. I think the MB is dead. Different power supply - no post, no BIOS. Clear CMOS - no post, no BIOS. Try Intel's BIOS recovery procedure - no post, no BIOS. Of course, I have no video either, so who knows what anything is trying to tell me. Intel says RMA it through retailer since it is within 30 days of purchase. Retailer is closed until Monday. I leave the country Monday morning for two months!! I am not a happy camper. Fortunately, I have another MB and I will try an MB swap.
January 28, 201214 yr Author Replaced motherboard, system again functional. Stupid Intel motherboard died. First time that has ever happened to me in any computer build.
