August 22, 20241 yr I have been running 6.12.6 for a long time and all of a sudden, this morning it became unresponsive. Now when I rebooted it everything takes forever to load. The OS comes up, but everything is incredibly slow. I have a local session open and it take minutes to get HTOP to launch in a terminal window. I am not sure what to look for? I have attached the diagnostic files. Any assistance appreciated as it is unusable at this point as everything times out when attempting to use. homenas-diagnostics-20240822-0759.zip
August 22, 20241 yr Nothing obvious in the logs, try rebooting in safe mode, also worth updating to latest stable.
August 22, 20241 yr Author Same thing in safe mode. In safe mode with gui takes 5 - 10 second to launch a terminal window. Ran memtest and memory passed.
August 22, 20241 yr Try booting with a different flash drive using a stock install, no key needed, that will confirm if the problem is the config or something external.
August 22, 20241 yr Author Strange, I rebooted into normal mode with a GUI and it came up quickly this time. So I proceeded to do the upgrade and now it is back to slow. The console GUI OS boots but takes 1 -2 minutes before the web UI attempts to load. Then when it does it errors because it is unresponsive. When I relaunch the GUI on the console after a few minutes it comes up, but you cannot click any tabs as it just hangs for an extended period. They eventually load, but takes a minute or two for each tab to load. Trying the fresh install USB now
August 22, 20241 yr Author So I do not appear to have any USB drives that I can create a clean boot drive from. I have tried 3 different USB sticks and they all do not show up in the boot menu for the OS. Is there a recommended USB stick to buy that I can try?
August 22, 20241 yr Personally I like the Sandisk Cruzer Blade 32GB, one of the few USB 2.0 flash drives still available, and in my experience they tend to be more reliable.
August 24, 20241 yr Author Was able to get upgraded and it seems good now. Still not sure why it was painfully slow. I have a new USB on order and will swap it out in case that is it. Thanks
