Unraid thinks disk is "New Drive" during Data Rebuild

Featured Replies

Hello! I'm in a bit of a tricky situation.

I recently upgraded one of my drives (Disk 6) to a larger drive. All was going well, until I got to the Data Rebuild portion.

When I started doing the Data Rebuild, it was going extremely slow (estimated time to finish was about 500 days). I figured a cable was loose, so I paused the Data Rebuild, shut it down, and re-seated the cables. Then, when I rebooted, one of my other disks (Disk 2) was showing as "deactivated". I ran an Extended SMART Test on Disk 2. There were no issues, so I unassigned/reassigned the drive to get it back in. But now Disk 2 is reading as a "New Drive" (with a blue square next to it).

Which brings me to my current situation:

  • UNRAID thinks Disk 2 is a new drive (but it's not - I'd like it to be re-added in with all of its existing data). I can't rebuild from parity, because Disk 6 hasn't been rebuilt yet. I don't know if I can save this as a "new config", because Disk 6 isn't correct yet.
  • Disk 6 IS a new drive and needs to be rebuilt from parity, but that can't work until Disk 2 is back online.

Diagnostics are attached. Any help is appreciated!

Try this:

-Tools -> New Config -> Retain current configuration: All -> Apply
-Check all assignments and assign any missing disk(s) if needed, including the new disk6 and existing disk2
-IMPORTANT - Check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" and start the array (note that the GUI will still show that data on parity disk(s) will be overwritten, this is normal as it doesn't account for the checkbox, but it won't be as long as it's checked)
-Stop array
-Unassign disk6
-Start array (in normal mode now) and post new diags.

Thanks @JorgeB! Just to be clear, should both Disk 2 & Disk 6 be assigned BEFORE I do the "New Config" step? (Disk 2 is currently assigned and reading as "New Drive', and Disk 6 is currently assigned and reading as "Device Contents Emulated". Am I good to go ahead Apply the "Preserve current assignments"?)

Yes, then after the new config just check that all disks are assigned.

Emulated disk6 mounted, assuming contents look correct, you can re-assign the disk to begin rebuilding.

Just wanted to circle back and say this worked! Thanks so much.
