Stuck on boot

Featured Replies

A few days ago while updating docker containers the server froze. The next day after i got off work it was still froze and I couldnt get the dashboard to respond. I tried the different IPs associated with the machine and got nothing. Some of the docker containers(not ones i was in the process of updating when the issue started) continued to work. At this point I hard restarted the machine. Upon restart it never fully came up. I went and checked the display and it appeared to be froze on startup(attached picture).

* I restarted multiple times trying the different options and never got past this screen.

* I copied the files over to a new USB drive and had the same results

* Based on a reddit post I tried replacing the bz files with new files from a freshly downloaded unraid zip, also same result

Anyone have an idea what the issue could be or other things to try?

What happens if you create and boot from a new trial USB stick?

That was something I was wondering. I'll try that in a little bit when i can get back to the computer.

The same thing happens with a new USB and fresh install of unraid. I guess that rules out likely USB stick issues and means I probably have an issues elsewhere in my system. I have been running unraid for almost a year and have restarted numerous times and never had this issue, so it seems unlikely to be a bios issue all the sudden causing problems. I guess a hardware failure elsewhere? I'll probably try swapping out hardware here in a bit. Ill start with the ram and see how it goes.

Don't rule out bios settings too quick, there have been gremlins like this before.  Check bios is current.  Then try checking these:

Disable secure boot

Disable TPM 2.0

Disable CSM

Disable everything on the MB that you do not absolutely need.

If that does not help it boot unraid, shutdown and open the monster up and give it a good up and down.  Reseat all the cards and reconnect all the cables.  Consider dropping down to a single memory stick in the event one of those is errored.

If still no, then removing cards one at a time.

Hopefully at some point unraid starts up before there's nothing left you can remove.

Well i swapped out some hardware and no luck. I did go ahead and update the bios to try that aswell and it worked. Not sure what in the bios would have went bad, but an updated bios did it.

Thanks all for the suggestions!
