February 10, 201214 yr I'm a total n00b with this server business, and I'm having some issues with ridiculously slow transfer speeds between shares on my server. I'm getting less than 5 MB/s when transferring. When I first set this thing up I faintly remember getting >40 MB/s transfer speed. I have a share set up (Unsorted Media) that I have my computers set up to download torrents to. When they're finished I transfer them to other shares I have set up (Media\Movies, Media\Music) etc. The best transfer speeds I get are <5 MB/s. It's driving me crazy and I'm not sure wtf the dealio is... any suggestions? Thanks. February 11, 201214 yr Author UPDATE: These transfer speeds are just as slow when I transfer between shares on the same disk, shares on 2 different disks, or copying from a machine on my network to the server. My router is 10/100, but I have all my machines connected to my router via a gigabit switch. I read through the wiki and I'm not finding anything helpful.
February 11, 201214 yr I'm not too surprized on that. You are likely causing the disk drives to seek which slows them down a lot. Peter
February 14, 201214 yr Author http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9880.0 Roger that. I'm sorry for not reading the posting rules before posting. I was kind of pressed for time when I started the thread. I'll amend the OP. I'm pretty green with all this. I read through the wiki when I had some extra time and found some info on transferring between disks using Midnight Commander, although it was a bit confusing. I'll experiment with it some more when I have some time. I tried using some commands with putty since I'm running the server headless but I need to tweak them a bit more to get it to work right. I understand if I initiate the transfer using one of my machines on the network I'm actually transferring to that computer then back to the server, but even with that being the case it seems too slow. The main rig I utilize the server with is my HTPC. I typically initiate the transfers with this machine. I'll post the specs in the OP like I should have in the first place
