[6.12.13] - VM troubles following GPU upgrade

Featured Replies

Heya folks, first time reaching out. Usually I can muddle my way through my Unraid woes but this time I am stumped!

I just switched out my aged 980TI for a XFX 7900 GRE. I have a problem wherein my unraid will start the Windows 10 VM that I was previously using with the card but not actually display anything on the screen. Im not talking there's ablack screen or an error or anything, it just doesn't show anything other than the typical unraid wall of debug text that shows during start up.

Things I have tried:

- Pinned the GPU (including the audio part) in vfios and added both to the VM config.

- Dumped the GPU bios using SpaceInvader1's script (this was a failure, the bios I got was only 700bytes).

- Downloaded a bios from TeechPowerUp for the specific card and put it into the VM config.

- Tried creating new vms using both types of machine.

- Attempted to set mutlifunction='on' on the VM.

- Switched CMS in my bios to legacy mode. Turning it off prevented unraid from booting for some reason.

In terms of hardware I am rocking:

Motherboard: ASRock X570 Pro4 s/n M80-F2005700056

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core @ 3500 MHz

Memory: Corsair 3200 32 GiB DDR4

I would love to hear if anyone had any suggestions on what I can try next. I've attached some of the relevant files. If I need to include any other information please let me know!

Hi, check this thread for starters:

If display shows up an unraid logo during vm boot then the gpu is passing through. However if it shows nothing on windows boot it might be a driver issue.

When I had 6800 xt I had much more troubles with it than with nvidia cards.

BIOS: disable CSM compatibility mode and leave only UEFI. I couldn't get GPU passed through in Legacy mode.

Whenever I disable the CSM mode on my botherboard bios it won't boot into Unraid anymore.

I tried to rename the EFI- to EFI as described but it's not working:

Okay I got the CSM disbaled and it does boot into unraid, however when I defined a Q35 machine with the GPU / rom it seems to crash my entire unraid instance

Any errors in the system log?
