Help installed on an N40L

Featured Replies

I have an old N40L with 16GB of ram, 240GB SSD and 4x14TB Exos drives. I believe the bios is standard.

I've having trouble installing unraid. I get a black screen after the initial system checks. If I do the make bootable script then I get "Non System Disk - Press any key to reboot.". I can boot Linux Lite fine via USB.

Here's a list of things I've tried

  • The USB creator on both Windows and Mac.
  • Two different sticks: a 16GB Corsair Survivor and a brand 128GB Kingston
  • Legacy boot script
  • Different USB sockets including internal
  • Change boot order to USB First
  • Installing a Debian LiveISO via rufus with extra support for legacy bios, then replacing the files with Unraid manual install files.
  • Tried with all the drives disconnected

Any ideas?

There are many users using those servers, I had some in the past, but don't remember if those servers support UEFI, post a photo of the boot menu.

Aye but then the legacy boot options should have sorted that?

Yes, if the flash drive was correctly created and chosen as the boot device.
