files disappearing

Featured Replies

I have an extensive music library containing almost 1000 albums, recently, I noticed Plex would show music titles but could not play them. When I accessed the share folder using Total Commander, I see that artist and album folders were intact but most contained no files. I don't know what could have caused this. Attached is a diagnostic file. Unfortunately, I did reboot the system, so the file might not show anything.

Files disappearing are usually caused by the server being internet facing and hacked, or a media container doing some file cleaning.

I recently noticed that my internal SSD generated a SMART error, overheating maybe? The SSD is used as my POOL device. What if I remove it and restart array?

That should not make any difference for the existing data.

Would there be any way to recover the missing files? What gets me is the fact that all of the folders and sub folders are intact; just the .mp3 and .flac files missing. I do have 2 parity drives with 2 data drives, all 10tb.

If there weren't any new writes, you could try a file recovery app, like UFS explorer

Another thing that I noticed is that the missing files are still using the same disk space on the array as before. I would say several terabytes of data. Almost as if the files are hidden.

That's not normal if they were deleted, I don't see any filesystem issues in the diags, but it may be worth checking filesystem on all disks, also try browsing by using the disk, not the share.
