OK THIS looks bad.. maybe the new NIC isn't a good fit?

things had been running quietly all night, copied some more stuff over this morning and, again while idle.. THIS pops up in the syslog

(when the log says "cut here"... that says important to me)

had just put in a new NIC, ULTRA PCI-E gigabit card using the JMicron JMC250

rest as usual..

M'board Asus M5A78L-M LX

CPU AMD Athlon II X3 455

CoolerMaster SilentProM 700w Power Supply

2x Crucial 4 GB DDR3-1333 (CT51264BA1339)

6x Hitachi 2k3000, 2tb

think I best pull that card out

Can't you update to unraid 5.0b14 and try how it works with the onboard LAN? This is really very annoying.

  • Author

The onboard LAN is apparently not well thought of .. Realtek 8111E. And I'm not sure I'm comfortable with putting my data on a beta... what's the downside of going to b14?

and yes it is annoying, everytime I think this settles down, something else goes PHFFT...

For me the downside of 5b14 was lack of support for the m1015 sata card. I started with 4.7 too. Went to 5.0b14 for 3 TB support, now I'm on 5.0b12a for a couple of months now. I had the same thoughts about betas as you though. But 4.7 on your system doesn't seem reliable too. If 5beta14 gives you a stable working system that might be the way to go. Or perhaps swapping out the MB.

  • Author

well swapping the MB/CPU is not high on my list of things to do either... but how's b12a? Does it have better support for the Realtek? Had any data loss? Any Major issues.

so far the issues are just weird... freezing up COULD have been the unlocked extra core on the CPU, I disabled that.

this LOOKS to be an issue with the network card, I've got one of these in my basket but haven't ordered yet..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005YUR8Q0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A32VV8QE6DM094

and see if that clears that up.

the other thing looks to be either power or sata cables (or has been suggested).. I'm getting rid of the CoolerMaster, getting a Cosair (the OCZ didn't have a way to split the drives across the 12v Rails... I really wanted modular, but I give up on that issue). And I've replaced the SATA cables... twice (two different sources)

If I swap out the mb/cpu, any suggestions?

I suggest first trying one of the 5.0betas before trying other hardware. It's easier and way cheaper.  For cpu/MB choices I suggest reading the respective threads on this forum.
