March 18, 201214 yr Hello, As a follow-up to my UnMounting Question, now that I can Stop the Array and add my 2 new drives, I've found that UnRaid wants to re-order the list, though not change my Parity. Original Parity was sda but with the addition of my PCIe SATA (2 Port) add-on Card, it has changed to sde actually skipping sdc altogether. This seems a bit odd as the add-on Card is not directly on the MB (Foxconn). Is this a problem or merely an aberration? Do I need to change anything or leave it alone? Dave
March 18, 201214 yr This is normal behavior. As the server boots, the various drives will take different amounts of time to initialize. This means that the drive letters (SDA, SDB, etc.) can change between boots. Therefore, you have to keep track of the serial numbers, not the drive letters. The serial numbers will never change.

Thanks Rajahal, I sort of remember seeing this somewhere before, but it was a bit disconcerting given my problem with the unmounting (see thread - topic=19008.msg169850#msg169850). I appreciate your fast response. As you are the "GURU" of Cache Drives, would that be an important consideration for me? I store most of my Data (Word/Excel/QuickBooks etc.) on the Server, but rarely access multiple files on a daily basis. The one use I could see would be to perhaps store a directory listing and a Movie etc. list so the Array did not have to spin-up to see what was available. I could easily consider adding a Cache Drive at this point (good timing), but would want to use a PATA 500 GB from my previous array (all PATA's changed for SATA's) to avoid an additional SATA add-on card. Is that appropriate or not ?? Thanks again for the quick response. Dave
