Ran into issue with failed drive during data rebuild

Featured Replies

I have a 16 drive server with single parity (I'll be moving to two parity after this experience :(), I had 2 TB drives in my array that I was looking to upgrade.

I got a Seagate 14TB drive that I added to my array to replace one of my 2TB drives. I was able to rebuild the data from the 2TB to the 14TB successfully with no issues. I than replaced the last 2TB drive (Disk 11) with a 10TB Seagate drive, now when I was going through the process of the data rebuild I started getting a bunch of errors on the 14TB drive I had recently added. I was super early in the data rebuild so I just paused it, stopped the array and rebooted the system to see if that might resolve things.

When the system rebooted my 14TB Drive (Disk 15) could no longer be added to the array and was only showing up in unassigned devices, it also wouldn't let me run a smart test from unassigned devices. I think this 14TB drive may have died on me, I tried to plug it into my Windows machine and I couldn't even get into disk management with this drive in my system.

I thought the best way to not lose any data would be to add the original 2TB drive I took out (to be replaced by the 10TB) and than I could use parity to rebuild the data that was on the 14TB drive (disk 15) with another 10TB drive I had (there was only about 1 - 1.5 TB of Data on the 14TB drive) however when I plugged my 2TB drive back in Disk 11 still shows as content emulated, it's not recognizing that this was the original drive for this disk. I'm not sure what I should do next, ideally I'd like to not lose any data but if I had to lose data I'm okay to lose what was on the 14TB drive, if I absolutely had to I'm okay to lose the data that was on the 14TB and the 2TB drive but I'm absolutely not okay with risking losing any of the other data across the array (on the other 14 disks). What is the recommended path forward here?

Please post the diagnostics and explain this part using disk numbers to make it more clear to follow:
