Frequent "Connection Timed Out" with Apple Devices Accessing NAS on Unifi Network

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering a persistent issue with my network setup, and I’m hoping someone here might have some insight. My network consists of a Unifi Dream Router and a USW-24-G2 switch.

The problem: when accessing my Unraid NAS (its main web interface or hosted applications) using Apple devices (iPhones, iPads, or Macs), I often get "Connection Timed Out" errors. Other devices on the network, including non-Apple ones, don’t experience this issue.

The only temporary fix I’ve found is disconnecting the Apple device from WiFi and reconnecting. This restores functionality for a while, but the issue eventually recurs.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Performing a factory reset on the network equipment – no improvement.
  • Turn off "Private Wi-Fi Address" and "IP Address Tracking Restriction" features in Apple Device WiFi settings.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Apple devices on Unifi networks? Could there be specific settings or tweaks in Unifi or Unraid to resolve this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't see this issues...
I run a mixed network of windows, linux, apple device’s
My current setup is
Fiber IP Modem media converter > Unifi UX(with wifi 6 ap) > Flex Switch > Network 192.168.2.0

I have a 2 laptops 1 work, 1 the kids use, a imac iphones, android phones. Again, I have not experienced this.

However, there are some known network configurations that you should do and run for your network.

Lets review some unifi stuff
example:
Settings > Networks

You want flow control and igmp snooping enabled. As you want multicast filtering on your network.

in my case the unif default network is called default let click default and review some other settings:

old windows wants domain name localdomain more ntml stuff and NetBIOS backwards compatibility

apple and new tech want you to use .local

IEEE network standards to folow the standard as both .local and .localdomain for a doman name makes server that make a FQDN for machien as hostname.domain name.

so unraid usual by default is called tower.
on the network per the settings above, its FQDN is tower.home.arpa

by clickin the network you can access other the setting mentioned above:

You want mdns enabled on the netwok this assist bonjor apple network settings
this is due to apple zerconf and other mdns stuff...

outside of that. there are a few things to look into on unbraids side settings
with the array off double check smb settings. you want enhanced macOS to yes

outside of that you may need to make some edits and replace unraids smb config and/or avahi config

Similar network setup no issues with samba access on apple nor windows.

Other side unifi settings depending on your network may be other wifi channel hopping.

Thank you so much bro, problem was in different subnets in network. Unraid has 192.168.x.x, devices (including apple devices) was on 10.(10,20,30).x.x .
When I've changed everything to 192.168.x.x for every VLAN, it works without any problem. Strange but fixed.
