Tailscale and Unraid 7 Vs Cloudflare Tunnels

Featured Replies

I haven't yet upgraded to Unraid 7 and have Cloudflare in docker with tunnels to each of my docker apps for remote access. This works well with Google authentication also on top.

My question is, aside from the nervousness about upgrading to 7.0 stable, what benefit would Tailscale give over my existing methods of remote access to Unraid itself and the dockerised apps?

The big main thing would be for media apps like plex, emby, jellyfin, audiobookshelf and even photo apps. It's against cloudflare's TOS to stream audio, video and big pictures files. They can and will throttle your speed which can result in buffering for media apps. Cloudflare can also see all your traffic if they want to.

Tailscale does not have this limitation.

Thanks. I don't stream Plex via Cloudflare, only other docker apps. Will investigate the benefits of Tailscale.
