April 4, 201214 yr I'm currently happily running 4.7, but I'm hoping to gain some clarification regarding my hardware, in advance of eventually upgrading to Unraid 5 and installing some 3 TB drives. My system is composed of the following hardware: Case: Norco 4224 CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Ram: A-DATA 2GB PSU: CORSAIR HX750W Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H SATA Controllers: -2 Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 -1 SIL3132 Monoprice SATA2 Card Data Drives: -7 WD-EARS20 -2 Hitachi 5K3000 Parity Drive: Hitachi 7K3000 Cache Drive: WD6400AAKS My reading of some posts on this forum and other forums have left me a little uncertain regarding my hardware and support for 3 TB drives. 1) My motherboard is not a UEFI motherboard. From what I've read it appears that the lack of UEFI support would only be an issue if I were attempting to use a 3 TB drive as a boot drive, which, of course, is not an issue with unRAID. Is this correct and are there any other issues that I might not have thought about that might make such a board incompatible with 3 TB drives? 2) Are there any issues regarding the SASLP-MV8 controllers and support for 3 TB drives? I've seen some discussion that these cards don't support 3 TB drives and/or that support depends upon whether or not you are using the .21 firmware (I'm currently using the .15 firmware) What are the specifics regarding 3 TB drives and these controller cards? Do they support 3 TB drives and, if so, do they require the .21 firmware to do so? (I'd rather not upgrade the firmware unless it is required.) 3. Does the SIL3132 card support 3 TB drives? Thanks in advance for any information.
