MOCA + Unraid?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My Greenleaf Unraid server works awesome via ethernet connection, but stutters occasionally via WiFi.

I just discovered MOCA and am hoping to confirm my understandings of it, before making any purchases...

With MOCA I would:

1. Attach Unraid via Ethernet to MOCA adapter #1

2. Attach MOCA adapter #2 in another room

3. Run ethernet from adapter #2 to the HTPC

4. Access files via SMB Share, just like I do now?

Thanks so much for any help,

Owen

With MOCA, as far as the devices (like unraid or htpcs) plugged into the MOCA adapters are concerned, they're using their normal ethernet adapters. MOCA is merely a transport layer issue and should have no impact on the clients.

I've used MOCA before I hard wired. Setup is going to be device dependent. You got the basic gist though. In my case I connect a bridge since other side was already connected to my network with a MOCA capable router. I had the extra router just sitting around. Setting up the bridge was easy.

While it worked it wasn't 100%. I would still get drops but I was running all kind of stuff over the bridge.

If you have to pay for the adapters I would recommend buying ethernet cable and running it along side the cable wire instead.
