Ideally, Docker/VM related shares (appdata, domains, system) should have all files on cache or other pool with nothing on the array, so Dockers/VMs will perform better, and so array disks can spin down since these files are always open. You actually have 2 pools. How are you using the fastlane pool? You could move those shares there, or you could move them to cache. Since cache has redundancy, there is an argument to be made for using that, but since fastlane is faster nvme and larger, there are also reasons to choose that one. How are you backing up your appdata? You don't have Appdata Backup plugin installed. I have split this discussion from FCP support thread to its own thread in General Support.

Fair enough but I need a way to upgrade the cache drives from 240GB pair to a pair of 4TB gracefully. I can take it offline. I was trying to use the fastlane pool as a cache for the array for moving files back and forth. I wanted to have the Cache Drive in RAID 0. Oops on the backups. I'll install that plugin. Any other suggestions?
February 6, 20251 yr Author Yes. I have the new 4TB SSDs ready to install. I just need a migration path to make sure I don't lose any data in the process.
February 6, 20251 yr Sorry, ignore that deleted post. That link uses the old terminology for the "use cache" settings. Take a look at these instead: https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/shares/user-shares/#primary-and-secondary-storage-unraid-612 https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/shares/user-shares/#moving-files-from-a-pool-cache-to-the-array You can check with Dynamix File Manager, or just do Compute All on the User Shares page to see if any shares are still on cache. When you are satisfied you have everything moved from cache to the array, you can just remove the old disks, assign and format the new disks. Then https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/shares/user-shares/#moving-files-from-the-array-to-a-pool-cache Don't hesitate to ask for more details as needed.

On the User Shares page, click on Compute... for a share to see how much of each disk or pool is used by that share. Or click Compute All button.
February 15, 20251 yr Author Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Check out my setup and diag now. I'll setup the backups for Appdata in a bit. tower-diagnostics-20250214-2258.zip
