New to Tailscale

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm new to Tailscale and have these questions:

  • I can use Tailscale to gain direct access to my Docker containers without having to release the ports separately in the router, right?
  • Is the Tailscale plugin sufficient for this, or do I also have to install the Tailscale Docker to be able to access the Docker containers from the outside?
  • Do I need a separate network within my Unraid to be able to access the Docker containers from the outside?
  • Do I generally have to share my local network of the FRITZ!Box in Tailscale?

Thank you!

Regards
Luk

  1. Yes, this is one of the key benefits of Tailscale -- you don't have to open ports in the router.
  2. In general, the plugin is sufficient, unless you want to share specific containers with other tailnets. (e.g., if you wanted to give a friend access to a single container, but not be able to see everything).
  3. No, you don't need a separate network in Unraid.
  4. No, you don't have to set Tailscale up as a subnet router -- you can  connect to your services via http(s)://tailscaleIP:port/, just like you would http(s)://localIP:port/.
