February 27, 20251 yr Hi there, a couple of weeks ago i started a little pet project plex media server with ancient hardware i found in my basement. Not that everything (except transcoding) works like charm, i think about giving my unraid server a more permanent home. It doesn't need to be a high end system nor does it need to be MinMaxed down to the last decimal. I'm aiming for a solid base mid-tier system which is able to transcode 3-5 streams (audio/video) and will run a couple of years without needing to upgrade. After a lot of reading i came up with the following components so far and hope that some of you experts could help me decide and fill in the blanks. Down to business: CPU: Intel i5-13400 -or- i5-13500 CPU-Cooler (open for suggestions) Motherboard: ASRock Z690 Extreme (DDR4) -or- ASRock Z790 Pro RS (DDR5) Because of the 8x SATA onboard RAM: 32gb KIT DDR4 -or- 32gb KIT DDR5 recommendations would highly be appreciated because I'm at a loss here what's the sweet spot clock- and latency-wise for intel Cache Pool Drives: 2x Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe Data Drives: 2x Seagate IronWolf Pro 16TB (1x Data/1x Parity, already obtained) i will probably add more drives gradually, but i think the 8 SATA ports will be more than enough for my needs. Case: Open for Suggestions PSU: Open for Suggestions All of the abovementioned components are >linked here< at gh.de hope i didn't forget anything and thank you very much in advance.
