April 16, 20251 yr If your use case is mostly write-once and 24/7 storage (like media or backups), these drives should work well with Unraid. They're great for cold storage, and as long as you’re not doing constant write-heavy tasks, they’ll hold up fine. I’d recommend shucking them and connecting via SATA rather than relying on USB as it is much more stable long term. Just double check if they’re CMR (ideal) vs SMR (not great for parity or frequent writes). Also, try to minimize frequent spin-up/down cycles to extend their lifespan.
