Is this HDD ok?

Featured Replies

I bought a used Samsung F3 1TB HDD. I did a smart test. Can someone tell me if the SMART output is ok?

before.txt

All the usual trouble indicators (Reallocated_Sector_Ct, Reallocated_Event_Count, Current_Pending_Sector, Offline_Uncorrectable) appear fine.  There is one odd thing: the UDMA_CRC_Error_Count is high (and its value is 8 which is very low), this might just indicate that the drive was having problems with the SATA cable or controller (or even power supply) that it used to be connected to.

Give it a workout by doing a couple of preclear passes and see if any of the SMART values change before putting it into your array.

Thanks. I am doing a preclear right now.

Is there a simple of checking SMART values on all drives? Is there a program or something that I could use that would alert me to SMART/HDD problems?

I did one Preclear and there is no change in the SMART values.

Looks fine to me.  There is no way to know what exactly the "UDMA_CRC_Error_Count" raw value means.

I would just double check cables (do you use good quality SATA and Power Cables)?

And double check that your power supply is powerful enough (you need to also consider its age, it loses up to 30% of its power output capability after a year or so of being on 24/7 - assuming you have a good quality one).
