Hi,

I planing to build a server to allow testing of various drivers with unRAID. What MB and CPU would you recommend?

Thanks,

David

assuming your requirements require different HBA/RAID cards passed directly for each VM to test the drivers... Pretty much anything in your budget that has VT-d.

I will mention that server boards and genuine Intel workstation boards tend to be much more stable and reliable with ESXi.

Some non-intel workstation boards claim to have VT-d. but, they do not have the setting in the bios. they just used the Intel standards, then never followed through with the implementation.

You will also need a CPU that supports VT-d. In most cases, that would be a Xeon for a server board and an I5/I7 for a workstation board.

Some older LGA775 will also support this, but if you are buying new, I would not go that route.

several of the supermicro or tyan boards will allow you to run 4 unraids  simultaneously at once each with its own HBA. This limit is set by the number of PCIe slots available.
