April 15, 20251 yr hello, i am observing a behaviour i cannot understand, i need to move docker form a specific pool (system_pool) to cache so that i can swap the 4 ssds in zfs1 to only 2 in mirror(dont need that much space just for docker) tried setting the secondary storage to cache and ask mover to move the files(with docker service off), on the main tab it says mover is running but nothing happens... tried moving with unbalanced instead of mover... same result (keeping the share primary/secondary and also changing for only the cache pool) even tried moving the files with the built in file manager and via cli.. everytime the result is the same.. i have the files there and docker when it starts says there are no containers... relevant pools: system_pool -> cache relevant shares: docker_files and appdata edit: if i move the files back to the original pool it works everytime.. what is strange since what it matters should be the share and not the pools right ? thanks for any help in advance... tower-diagnostics-20250415-1024.zip Edited April 15, 20251 yr by tiagosk
April 15, 20251 yr Community Expert Why have you made a docker folder instead of docker.img? Your docker.cfg has docker and appdata both in docker_files DOCKER_IMAGE_FILE="/mnt/user/docker_files/docker/" DOCKER_APP_CONFIG_PATH="/mnt/user/docker_files/appdata/" What, then, is the purpose of this user share? a-----a shareUseCache="only" # Share exists on system_pool, cache You currently don't have any user shares configured to be moved. You should uninstall Mover Tuning plugin.
April 15, 20251 yr Author Why have you made a docker folder instead of docker.img? - dumb idea i know now Your docker.cfg has docker and appdata both in docker_files DOCKER_IMAGE_FILE="/mnt/user/docker_files/docker/" DOCKER_APP_CONFIG_PATH="/mnt/user/docker_files/appdata/" -yes, that was my idea, to have them both on the same share, to simplify the management What, then, is the purpose of this user share? a-----a shareUseCache="only" # Share exists on system_pool, cache - dont know exactly wich container did that but the first ones installed did use the previous setup, for some reason i got an appdata share and some containers there(still dont know how it happened exactly) You currently don't have any user shares configured to be moved. - at the time i took the diagnostics i had all shares static to only one pool/array yes You should uninstall Mover Tuning plugin. - did it while waiting for some help on the forum, restarted the server, set both shares used by docker to be able to be moved to array, disabled docker, ran mover, when i restarted docker the containers didnt work again, had to use unbalanced to send them back to the original pool... i am suspecting that i messed this so bad that i will need to rebuild the docker setup trying to re-use the app-data i have..

Some templates are sloppy and assume appdata instead of the path in docker.cfg 35 minutes ago, trurl said: You should uninstall Mover Tuning plugin. And leave it uninstalled at least until everything is working as it should be. I really recommend not using that plugin at all. Why do you think you need it?

Why do you think you need it? i was going to try to avoid to spin up the parity too often by adjusting the downloads share... but that is a minor issue now 44 minutes ago, trurl said: 52 minutes ago, tiagosk said: have them both on the same share, to simplify the management It complicated management, since it means you have to make sure none of your containers are configured to use the default appdata share. Some templates are sloppy and assume appdata instead of the path in docker.cfg yes, now i know that... i was thinking that the docker.cfg would be the only way to define it, never imagined that there would be containers hardcoded... i am currently backing up all appdata and docker folders, going to try a docker setup rebuild... i have printed out all the current container setups so make sure to use the same mappings, i will leave the default appdata share(will try to merge the 2 i have now on the default) and docker.img any advices/warnings about this ?
April 15, 20251 yr Community Expert Be sure to disable Docker and VM Manager in Settings while you work on this.
April 15, 20251 yr Author well, everything rebuilt, used the default settings, seems that i only lost jellyfin and firefox (on purpose to make it quicker, both of them were non important and were large... ) thanks for the insights pointing where i was messing up

April 15, 20251 yr Community Expert Looks good! You can name your pools as you want, of course, but why did you name it flash_mirror?
