May 1, 201214 yr I'm planning on upgrading my Network cables. I looked at what I have now and saw some very old stuff (Cat5 maybe) mixed with newer (Cat5e and Cat6) with tules some without. I saw some on Amazon Germany listed as: SSTP patch cable PIMF: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005VFYXSY/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=computers&psc=1 What does SSTP and PIMF mean? Shielded Twisted Pair or something Are these the right cables for server to switch and router to switch?
May 1, 201214 yr PIMF - Pairs In Metal Foil STP - Shielded Twisted Pair SSTP - Shielded Twisted Pair with an overall shield (Shielded Shielded Twisted Pair ?) CAT5e or CAT6 will do for a Gig network. I use CAT6 in walls and CAT5e for patch cables. CAT6 cables are not as flexible as CAT5e.
