[Solved] PCIe Sata (2 Port) Failure

Featured Replies

Hello,

This morning I tried to copy something to my Server and received not available status on 2 computers.  I went to look on direct connect and it was operating, so I finally got to the Unraid Menu/unMenu and 2 drives were offline so the Array was offline (properly).

The two missing drives are my new 2TB Seagates (~ 3mos old) connected to a SyBa PCIe Sata II card.  I had good Parity through Tuesday (I think) with Parity refreshed ~ 2 days ago (May1st, automatic) w/o problems.

I copied the Syslog (attached).  From unMenu I have - Array StatusERROR:TOO_MANY_MISSING_DISKS, unRAID ARRAY is STOPPED 6 disks in array.    Parity is Valid:.  Last parity check 2 days ago .  Parity updated  488378638  times to address sync errors.

I've downed the Server & re-booted several times, removed & replaced the PCIe Card in its "slot" and finally moved it to the PCIx16 slot w/o success.  My thought is a bad card since it went down after working and a good Parity check, but would like another opinion.  Any other suggestions?

Also since I have 2 x 2TB (that are offline) array is stopped what options might I have w/o getting a replacement PCIe SATA Controller.  I doubt if either drive has much of anything stored at this point, I added them based on a "good deal" and in anticipation of moving my Records & BluRays to Digital Copies.

Thanks

Certainly sounds like your PCIe card died.... only 'real' option is to get a new card so you can plug in all your drives.

Alternatively; if you don't care about what is on those drives and want to just read/move the data off them, you can start your array and have it rebuild parity without the drives so that you have a protected array again.  Then take the drives to another computer with free ports, manually mount and copy over the data from the drives to unraid again (over network).

I think your best bet is to get a new PCIe SATA card.

Hi Marcusone,  I tend to agree, especially since I can't get any response from the PCI x 16 lane and I am relatively sure the Drives are functional.  I've ordered another card, but hate being w/o my data or array for 2-5 days.  Of course its the weekend and no one locally even has a clue what I'm seeking, ah well.

Should I completely shut the unRaid off since the Array is offline?  I don't want anything to get corrupted.

Thanks for your response.

Replacement SATA Card received & installed.  Disks required uninstalling (unassigned) in Devices then re-assigned in same order followed by Parity Check - all's well at the moment  ;)  Thanks

Dave

now buy a spare one... they aren't expensive :)
