Flash drives

Featured Replies

Is there a way to migrate to the new software using the existing flash drives, or are they too small?  I have 4 servers up right now and 1 extra Unraid flash drive for a machine as yet unbuilt, and I'd like to reuse them if possible.

Yes you can, but if possible I suggest you leave them intact for the time being.  If you want to do it, I've found that you will need to use the HP Flash Formatter tool to re-format the Lime Technology flash.  Then follow the directions for installing on a Flash.

I purchased a SanDisk 512MB "Cruzer Micro" at my local Radio Shack. Emailed Tom for the registration key, and followed the directions. Very simple to setup. The new shares is a great feature.Very smooth process.

For people who may be looking to snag a nice flash drive to do this upgrade....!  Tom asked me to give the Lexar Firefly flash a try so I did.  They have the right GUID so they work just fine but what is nice about them is the size and construction.  They are just thicker than the flash drive you got from Tom but they are the same depth so they don't stick out too far.  And they are very sturdy, have the metal shield over the contacts area and the body is VERY solid hard moulded plastic.  I got mine off Amazon for just over $20 for 512MB, small by todays standards but large enough for this application.

IMHO it's a highly recommended flash.

Tom, what is the minimum size you recommend for Flash drives with these newer releases?  Seems to me that anything over maybe 256MB would be overkill.  I understand the price differences aren't that great, but it seems pointless to get anything larger than I need for a relatively static application.

Minimum size is 128MB.  Hard to find them that small anymore though!
