Broadcom PEX8733 U.2 nVME controller working with UNRAID with basic SFF-8643 cables

Featured Replies

This is more of an FYI post rather than a question. I got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZHF42H5

the SFF-8643 cables i got were also from amazon (H!Fiber brand) and cost about $7 each.

it's been working fine. i have 2 drives hooked up to it now, but even with 4 drives it was working as expected. UNRAID saw all 4 drives as individual units. no bifurcation required.

the reason i made this post is because i spent a week researching which controller to get for my U.2 drives (Sandisk SDLC2LLR). i kept getting conflicting information about IT firmware, LSI vs highpoint, special nvme enabled cables/backplanes, etc. in the end, buying decade old controller and "enabled" cables would set me back $250+, and may not have worked in the end, or died soon after due to age. if anyone in the future is looking for this information, i hope this helps.
