SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 not finding any drives

Featured Replies

Hey guys

I finally got my SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 from Zar in Germany, and have installed it. Windows found it fine, drivers installed fine, but no drives are found. Just to be sure, the card is supposed to sit in the gfx pciEx16 slot, right?

On bootup all it says is spinup group 1,says ok and then nothing happens. In bios no drives are found. I am using these cables http://www.computersalg.dk/produkt/820569/3ware-multilane-seriel-ata--sas-kab#  (Molex 79576-3006) which should work, right?

The same drives worked fine in my 2-port sata cards

Bios version is 3.1.0.21 and card is in jbod mode

Nevermind,my idiot retailer have the wrong cables on their website,so it is the reverse kind i got..Gonna exchange them for the forward kind and that should make it work

Wrong cable, with the linked cable you can connect 4 SATA-Ports on mainboard with one SFF-Connector on a backplane...

This one from delock (have seen your shop in DK has delock-cables): http://www.delock.de/produkte/S_83058/merkmale.html...

A good explanation could be found here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7003.msg67861#msg67861

Yeah,i found out it was the wrong cable, but my retailer never mentioned it on the website it was a reverse cable,so i never thought to check the actual part number, and low and behold a r and an f is all the identifies the 2 types. R ofcourse is the variety they sent me,and they are ofcourse reverse,so i ordered new ones which should be the correct ones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816116098 correct?

Working now :-).. A few questions though, should i go with the standard setting of 1 group or make 2 groups? what is the difference? Also, how does one change the settings for the controller itself be it jbod to for example raid? Should i disable the init13 thingy?

Thank you

Making groups can help with staggered spinups. Since starting up causes a lot of energy, starting all the drives at once takes more from the powersupply. That's why you can make groups and tell them to spin-up differently. However, with a good powersupply and few drives (like 10 or so) it doesn't matter.

To get into the card BIOS, press CTRL+M, like it says on the screen. You can't change from JBOD to RAID because the card isn't a RAID-card.

Int 13h support is used when booting the computer to determine what drives can be booted from. This means when you add/remove/change a drive, it can change the boot order. So it is better to disable it, so things will keep working without you having to change it all the time when you change drives on the card.

Excellent, than you very much for the clarification. I have 8 drives connected to the sata card, and all is working fine with 1 group. Now i will await my 2 new WD20EARX so i can begin pre-clearing and run a trial unraid
