  1. Hey guys I just got a second ibm 1015m which i flashed to it,and i upgraded both my cards to latest firmware/bios as per instrctions in this thread. However, both card said "adapter settings have changed,re-config is suggested" so i ctrl-c on boot, and now i am confused, because i have never seen these menues before. What settings do i need in the interrupt hook thingy? Under boot support do i put bios and os or disable this? I am not booting from any of these cards. Also,in boot order, there is only a 0 by 1 of the cards, the other has empty boot order,is this normal? Thank you
  2. No,and no.. Only up until first generation EARX drives had the intellipark feature set at 8 seconds, all drive models after that is fine. I ran WDidle3 on all my EARS,EADS,and 1st gen. EARX to disable the intellipark completely all had data on them, and all are well.
  3. You will need to use the files from post 4 (LSI MEGARAID) of this thread here: http://www.mediafire.com/?98j2l2314l6g77w The procedure is in the readme in that file... In short: prepare a bottable USB with the files boot from that run the .bat scripts in sequential order The FW is for 9211...the cross-flash will turn the M1015 into this card, as far as FW is concerned. When you compare card layouts on lsi website for 9210 and 9211, you will notice that the M1010 wil resemble the 9210 or the 9240. ..LSI does not list a 9220---the M1015 in its orginal state with megaraid FW is missing some RAID-modes from the original 9240...maybe this is LSi's naming scheme for their OEM, I don't know. I own 6 of these and only two carried the 9220 sticker...I have cross-flashed all 6 of them without problems. Yes and Yes BTW: There is a risk that flashing in some motherboards will not work.....look for "Failed to initialize PAL" error. The only solution to this is to continue with another mobo until you fget to one that works, as far as i know of. I have now flashed the card and it seems to work, however i still get drive dropouts once in awhile, and sometimes machine hangs on shutdown and boot,it is driving me insane and why i threw away the supermicro aoc-saslpmv8 as it was horrible with dropouts,i had hoped changing to the ibm would make my system more stable. Anyways, thank you so much for your help :-)
  4. Hey guys I was hoping you could help me. I just exchanged my supermicro aoc-saslp8 (due to drive dropouts) for a IBM serveraid 1015M, and would like to have it work like IT mode (native SATA Controller) ,how exactly do i go about using the files in post 1 on this thread? Also, do i use the 1015M files, even though my card is branded LSI 9220-8i and NOT 9210-8i? Does drive spindown from windows power management work? And does smart work? Thank you
  5. I have just gotten 2 more WD20EARX,so i now have 6 total,i have disabled idle timer completely on ALL my WD greens which is 20 drives ranging from 10EADS,20EADS,20EARS,20EACS and 20EARX i just wdidled the 2 new EARX as they were also set to a timer of 8 seconds. However, i got an e-mail from WD´s engineers stating that the EARS is the LAST drive series to have the LCC problem,i just turned off idle for piece of mind, and i would much rather control power saving using software
  6. All drives perform optimally as 4-aligned. It makes no difference if the drive has 4K sectors. Drives with 512 byte sectors perform equally regardless of selected alignment. 4K drives should perform better as 4k aligned. Non-4K drives can be formatted either way. Format all drives as 4k aligned irregardless of whether the drive is 4K and all of the drives will perform optimally. Do not worry about whether a drive is 4k or not. They will all perform optimally formatted as 4k aligned. Did not know that, thank you.. Gonna begin the long tedious process of moving and preclaring, talk to you guys in about a month
  7. OK,i already use teracopy,so no sweat there, just annoying i have to put the drives in other pc. Regarding the WD20EARS they make out most of the array,as i have 8 of those,i have 2xWD10EADS 1xWD20EACS and the rest is WD20EARX, wdidle has been run on all drives NOT EARX to stop the load count, and i think only the EARS and the EARX are 4k capable, correct? I have never used any of these drives with a jumper,so none are installed.
  8. I also have this problem though it says version expected 2.64 Installed, but version is different. Current version='/usr/sbin/ssmtp:' expected '2.64' How do i fix this in laymans terms? how exactly do i istall this fix? where do i put the file? I have absolutly no idea how to use tenet/putty and such except for the tutorial in the wiki
  9. Hey guys As topic says, i want to convert my 20 drive jbod windows "server" to unraid for the security of parity, and thus have a few questions how i go about that? I have 2 brand new WD20EARX that just came in to day,and i was thinking about doing pre_clear on these 2 drives,1 parity and 1 data, and then move my content from my existing jbod server 1 disk at a time, and the pre_clear free disk, until all 20 drives have been pre-cleared. How do i go about this exactly? Do i run pre_clear from a windows platform,or do i remove all my current drives, including the boot drive, and replace them with the 2 new drives, install unraid to usb and run pre_clear from unraid usb on the 2 drives, and then add 1 drive at a time, move content from old ntfs drive onto new preclear data, and then pre-clear the old empty ntfs drive, and continue this until all 20 drives are rdy or failed? Can one move/delete/copy content from within unraid at all? Or do i need to put the content drives in different computer, and then move via gigabit lan? The server is made up of brand new hardware, but not everything is to limetech specifications, for example,i use only 1x8 port supermicro sata card, and 4xasrock sata cards, and so far it has worked ok,sometimes it seems there is a conflict on boot where a drive or 2 disappears, then i have to physically change the drive to a different slot, and re-boot,then it re-appears,but i think this has more to do with windows failing to initialize the drives on bootup than the hardware. Also, my drives are a mix of older WD and newer WD, 2 are 1TB but most are 2TB,so how does the 4k alignment feature in here? Do i inspect each drive, and pre_clear it accordingly with the 4k switch if drive is 4k,and no switch if drive is NOT 4k? and then change the format settings for each drive in unraid as i add them to array? Anyhow, any help would be appreciated
  10. About you second question. WD20EARX does NOT suffer from the load cycle problem,so no need to wdidle that one. And yes, you can use wdidle on the other drives without losing data or anything. I did it on my 12 WD20EARS with my complete data collection intact. There is a question wether to turn off completely intellipark,or set it to 300,i turned it off completely just to be sure. However, you need to check the load cycles your drives have been through, and watch out for those that have a very high count,i use smartmontools to check this. Your first question i will let others with more knowledge answer.
  11. Excellent, than you very much for the clarification. I have 8 drives connected to the sata card, and all is working fine with 1 group. Now i will await my 2 new WD20EARX so i can begin pre-clearing and run a trial unraid
  12. Working now :-).. A few questions though, should i go with the standard setting of 1 group or make 2 groups? what is the difference? Also, how does one change the settings for the controller itself be it jbod to for example raid? Should i disable the init13 thingy? Thank you
  13. Yep, that's the right one... Thank you, cant wait to see if this works, then my server is 16 drives, and can be expanded to 21 when i get my 5in3 cases
  14. Yeah,i found out it was the wrong cable, but my retailer never mentioned it on the website it was a reverse cable,so i never thought to check the actual part number, and low and behold a r and an f is all the identifies the 2 types. R ofcourse is the variety they sent me,and they are ofcourse reverse,so i ordered new ones which should be the correct ones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816116098 correct?
  15. Nevermind,my idiot retailer have the wrong cables on their website,so it is the reverse kind i got..Gonna exchange them for the forward kind and that should make it work
