May 16, 201214 yr I've been pondering about buying this board to replace my Biostar A760G. I don't think the connectivity of the USB speed 2.0 / 3.0 matters since your USB flash drive has to support either speed. When I boot up my server it only takes less than 30 seconds, which it's pretty fast compared to my W7 Quad Core AMD PC.
May 16, 201214 yr Author I too own a Biostar A760G which boots fast, but the ECS A885GM-A2 boots slow and I cant seem to find a way to get it to boot faster. Its a very minor problem. Other then that, I like the board it runs very well and fast after boot I have 6 3tb drives ST3000DM001, parity checks at 5 1/2 hr @ 145MB/sec Edit: When i talk about booting i mean bzroot load times
May 16, 201214 yr Sular, I wanted to ask something not related to your post, and I am sorry for deviating. However, I've been having issues with my network. I've changed all of my ethernet cables from Cat5e, to Cat6, which already came terminated from monoprice.com. I've changed my gigabit router as well. I even bought a intel pro nic trying to see if this fixed the problem, but I am still having errors and dropped packets in my ethernet info. Right now, I just did a clean install of the RC3, and I noticed I've got 24 dropped packets already in a matter of 2 hours, and I wasn't even using the server. So, I wanted to ask you if you have had any network connectivity issues using your A760G onboard ethernet port? Also what color are the activity LED lights on your ethernet port mobo? Mine are orange / yellow....I don't know why. I'm getting to the point of either replacing my mobo or the router since I was having some wireless issues with it when I updated the firmware.
May 16, 201214 yr Author My server with the Biostar A760G M2+ is mostly off, as it is use for backup only, but don't recall having any network problems with it. my mobo nic after bootup is orange / yellow I just copied 10g of files to it with... RX packets:7314518 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1835680 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
May 16, 201214 yr Mine stars getting error or dropped packets over time. Ive monitored it while transferring a file and it doesnt get any error / dropped packets, but if I check it like 4 hours later it will have either one, but now I only get dropped packets. Its driving crazy trying to fix it.
May 16, 201214 yr Author I'll leave it up the rest of the day and see how it does. I'm kinda curious now.
May 16, 201214 yr I'll leave it up the rest of the day and see how it does. I'm kinda curious now. Cool thanks. Let me know the results. I'm pondering about just buying a supermicro mobo now since a lot of people who own them say they are more reliable for server purposes. I just disabled my mobo ethernet port, and enable the intel pro pci nic. The mobo ethernet port keeps dropping the connection or saying "link down" and renewing the lease every 4 hours or so.
May 17, 201214 yr I've built a few servers out of the ECS A885GM-A2 (V1.1) (hence my recommendation of the board) and I've had no issues with boot speed. I always use the Verbatim Clip-It flash drives. What type of flash drive are you using? And how long does it take to boot your server? Anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes is pretty normal. USB 2.0 versus 3.0 speeds will make a little bit of a difference, but not much. However, since the motherboard doesn't have any USB 3.0 ports I'm not sure why it was brought up. Any USB 2.0 or 3.0 compatible flash drive should boot at USB 2.0 speeds, though some flash drives are still faster than others. I've also built countless servers from the Biostar A760G-M2+, which is why it used to be my budget board of choice when it was easily available. I have seen only one case of a bad NIC, and it was likely caused by a defective Ethernet cable that got stuck in the port and had to be forcibly removed. A simple PCI NIC fixed that problem. Although I haven't seen it personally, it is certainly possible that the NIC could go bad over time on an older board. My personal server is also based in the A760G and it has been running steadily for years....I also hope my NIC stays healthy

The seller stated the mobo was brand new, but there was no way for me to find out if this was true or now. It came in what appeared to be an unopened original box, but nowadays anyone can do that.
May 17, 201214 yr Author Don't get me wrong I really like ECS A885GM-A2, runs very nice but it loads the bzroot about 3 times slower than my Biostar A760G. I do have those Verbatim Clip-It flash drives and several others but it makes no difference. I just thought maybe there was something I overlooked or it was normal for this mobo

May 17, 201214 yr Router/Wireless Dlink DIR-655 Switch TP-LINK TL-SG1016D I am thinking of either buying a new gigabit router to replace my WNDR3700 or buy a new MOBO! Or just live with the error and dropped packets!
