May 16, 201214 yr I swear I read in the past that in 5.x beta you could rearrange your disks in unraid. In case you were anal like me and wanted the disk slots in unraid web manager to match those of any physical labeling you might want to use. Can't find the discussion on it, could have sworn it was in the beta 1, but nothing jumped out at me. Can you now use the drop downs to move disks around how you want them in unraid web manager??? Are there any limitations, like no gaps or anything (aka slot 1 disk A, slot 2 empty, slot 3 disk B etc) Thanks
May 16, 201214 yr Author Is this still valid for 5.x??? http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#What_is_the_safe_way_to_rearrange_disk_numbers.2C_assignments.2C_slots.2C_etc.3F
May 16, 201214 yr Is this still valid for 5.x??? http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#What_is_the_safe_way_to_rearrange_disk_numbers.2C_assignments.2C_slots.2C_etc.3F I don't think it is the same in the later 5.0 series.. The 5.0 series changed to where they do not have a separate "devices" page. In addition, the assignments are now by disk serial number. Therefore, on any of the later 5.0 series, stop the array, power down, put the disks as you desire physically in the case, power up. unRAID should figure it all out as it will know the disks by their model/serial numbers.
June 1, 201214 yr I have a different case on rearrangement of Hard-disk (Hardware and slot assignment keep unchanged, just want to swap drive number arrangement) unRAID 5 beta 14 Existing Arrangement Disk 1 - WD 2TB Disk 2 - WD 2TB Disk 3 - WD 2TB Disk 4 - Seagate 3TB I wish to swap Disk 1 with Disk 4 Disk 1 - Seagate 3TB Disk 2 - WD 2TB Disk 3 - WD 2TB Disk 4 - WD 2TB What is the correct way to swap disk number assignment? (A) or (B) (A) i) move all data from Disk 4 to Disk 1-3 ii) remove Disk 4 (resync parity) iii) replace Disk 1 (WD 2TB) with Seagate 3TB (resync parity) iv) add WD 2TB as new Disk 4 (resync parity) (B) i) Stop the array ii) Clear Drive Assignment Configuration (New Configuration) iii) Assign the same Parity, Disk 2 and Disk 3, and swap Disk 1 with Disk 4 iv) Start the array and and resync parity
June 1, 201214 yr Thanks a lot for your quick response. Hope the correct procedure to rearrange slot / drive no/ sata port (and many other common operation) can be clearly stated in the FAQ section in the wiki.
