July 30, 2025Jul 30 A very non techy friend had a unraid box built for him a few years back, mostly uses it for plex, but also has some family picture on it that they don't have anywhere else (user assumed parity = backup). The guy who built him the server is no longer in our area, so he asked me to help. Power went out and usb died on him. I have a new usb and was able to recover the license key and all that, but the one thing I can't recover is the drive/storage array setup info. I was wondering if anyone could help me rebuild this for him? I'll make sure he actually backs up the info to his account this time in case it happens again, and I also had him order a UPS as well lol He has 10 drives in the box, 3 are NTFS, 1 has what appears to be unraid stuff on it (perhaps the app install pool?) and the other 6 are unmountable, looks like 3 are xfs and 3 are no file system (I assume these are parity) - all discovered from livebooting ubuntu and looking around the box just to get an idea. I read through some other posts like this one https://forums.unraid.net/topic/152005-usb-flash-drive-died-how-to-recover-array/ but I was unable to copy anything off the old flash drive, and it doesn't even show up in partition manager now, I think it's dead dead, so I can't recover that info. In this help doc https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/changing-the-flash-device/ it says to pop in here to ask. I have NOT attempted to boot the unraid box with the new usb yet as I didn't want to accidentally kick off any parity action that would result in data destruction. Any advice is appreciated.
