Prepping a previous unraid drive for use in different unraid server, I'm lost

Featured Replies

I have 5 disks from a previous unraid server, media files (movies and such), formatted as xfs, that I want to wipe clean, to use as fresh drives in a new unraid server to use for new data. It seems like years ago there was a program to restore them to factory, but I can't find it anymore. There must be a way, I can't be the only one using older drives. My thoughts only go to preclear as an unassigned disk? Any help sure appreciated. I also have 1 parity drive, same process??

When you add the disks to the new server, assuming there's a parity-protected array, they will automatically be cleared.

If there's no parity or you are starting a new array, after assigning the new disks, click on each one and then "erase"

If I haven't assigned a parity drive in the "new" server, will it automatically give me the option to erase?

  • Community Expert

Erase option is available for any new disks (blue icon), with or without parity.

The machine I'm messing with has 6.5, let's say I create a a 7.1 usb drive, not upgrading, just a trial os, and start the server, will my drives show as blue? Just over-thinking this. Thanks.
