September 28, 2025Sep 28 I have 5 disks from a previous unraid server, media files (movies and such), formatted as xfs, that I want to wipe clean, to use as fresh drives in a new unraid server to use for new data. It seems like years ago there was a program to restore them to factory, but I can't find it anymore. There must be a way, I can't be the only one using older drives. My thoughts only go to preclear as an unassigned disk? Any help sure appreciated. I also have 1 parity drive, same process??
September 29, 2025Sep 29 Community Expert When you add the disks to the new server, assuming there's a parity-protected array, they will automatically be cleared. If there's no parity or you are starting a new array, after assigning the new disks, click on each one and then "erase"
September 29, 2025Sep 29 Author If I haven't assigned a parity drive in the "new" server, will it automatically give me the option to erase?
September 29, 2025Sep 29 Community Expert Erase option is available for any new disks (blue icon), with or without parity.
September 30, 2025Sep 30 Author The machine I'm messing with has 6.5, let's say I create a a 7.1 usb drive, not upgrading, just a trial os, and start the server, will my drives show as blue? Just over-thinking this. Thanks.
