[Sharing] Simple way to add Matter device with HA docker

Featured Replies

This is my 2nd time try to add Matter device to HA docker. In 1st time try (1yrs ago).

  • Install docker "Matter server" and assign it to "Host network"

  • Enable IPv6 and modify some forwarding setting.

  • I haven't setup standalone Thread network, the thermostat joint the WiFi AP as usual, and HA in another VLAN.

Due to some reason, I have return that device, so no any Matter device afterward. Below are the previous post which relate to this.

Today, I buy Meross smart thermostat, but I realized I was wrong that it support HomeKit or Google Home ( need extra hardware / hub ). So, the only way was connect it through Matter with HA. 😡

Due to I don't want run Matter server on separate Host network and enable IPv6. I try something as below implementation ( left side path ).

Home-Assistant-Connect-ZBT-2_63879140451

But with whole day trying still not success. So I need back to Matter-server route. Quite interesting this time, I don't need enable IPv6 and setup Matter server in same IoT VLAN were success. There no need complicated setting and it just work.

  • Matter device also connect to same LAN / VLAN ( WiFi ).

  • Install docker Matter-server in same LAN / VLAN.

  • Install add-on Matter in HA and set it to connect Matter-server "ws://192.168.68.23:5580/ws"

  • Request the pairing code from commissioning app.

  • That's all
