Question about Array modification to add parity

Featured Replies

Okay, so i pulled a rookie move when i set up my unraid server. I have an array of 12 3TB disks, and a cache drive. I've also been performing backups of whats on the array to another NAS, and backing up the appdata of my docker containers as a precaution. Now that my array is a bit more seasoned, I am wanting to add 2 drives in for parity (a 6TB & 8TB), but in order to do so, I need to remove 2 of them. Is there a docker container that can move files from two of these disks to the rest of the array, and then i can go through and stop the array, remove the two disks from the array, and add in the parity drives i want?

The built-in file manager will let you move files to other drives.

Ah i see that now! Once I move files off the drives ill be removing though, i theoretically should be able to stop the array, remove the two disks from the array, and add in the parity drives i want?

yes

Parity will build when you start the array with the parity disks assigned.
