Optimizing Docker Engine on unRAID 7.x to Increase CPU and I/O Performance

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am using unRAID 7.x and have some issues running CPU and I/O heavy Docker containers like Plex, HandBrake, and Nextcloud. Even though the CPU and RAM are still free, the container still lags, restarts randomly, or has slow I/O when reading and writing large data.

I want to ask the community:

What is the most effective way for people to use a CPU for containers on unRAID?

Are there any tips to optimize I/O speed (NVMe cache, mover schedule, etc.)?

Should I edit cgroup or daemon.json in Docker to improve performance?

Is there anyone who is running a similar configuration but smoother? Please share.

My configuration:

unRAID 7.8.2

CPU: Intel i9-10900K (10 cores)

RAM: 64GB

Cache: NVMe Samsung 970 EVO 1TB

Array: 4 x WD Red Pro 10TB

Containers: Plex, HandBrake, MariaDB, Nextcloud

Thanks everyone in advance! I will try the suggestions and update the results for everyone to refer to.

Hi,

Be sure that your docker.img file is on your cache disk and not on your array.
