November 29, 2025Nov 29 Hi all,Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. Think of this as day one for me. I have zero server/IT/Network experience. So, I am here to learn!! I have an extensive background in electronics and mechanics from a manufacturing perspective (automotive, consumer and defense technologies). But I do build and repair laptops and desktops as a hobbyist. I am looking to further this knowledge and create a home network with a server. My stepson just gave me a Dell PowerEdge T430 (no HDD's or SSD's) yesterday so I am off to a thrift store today to find a monitor so I can get it up and running. It does have 24GB Ram and dual processors though. I will use a spare 64G thumb drive to run it with Unraid. Tbh, I was originally going to try windows server (25 or such), but this seems to be an easier path, both from a user experience and support. So anyway, here I am, I will be reading up here extensively, trying to contribute when I can. 😆Cheers!!Ed
