Need help with motherboard and CPU options!

Featured Replies

Hello so I am planning to build a new unRAID server. The main purpose of it is using nzbget and jellyfin (with 1 virtualization of windows maybe). I want to use the Lian Li lancool 216 and I was thinking of a i5 14500. Now I am struggling with finding the best board for my purpose. I want to use DDR4 cause of prices and I want to use 2 nvme ssds and 4-6 HDDs. I thought the MSI Tomahawk z790 DDR4 would be the best option, but I can't find one here. Now I have learned of w680,h670 and c266 Chipset but I have no clue about there boards. I want all sata's to run solid (not with shared lanes) and C10 or c8 state would be nice. What are your thoughts for the best board and would you recommend me another CPU? Thanks for your advices

For detailed information, you must read the manuals of these boards to see how they work.

You can download each PDF Manual from the manufacturer.

This is the only way to see "exactly" how they have switched the components on the board together...

The 14500 is a good CPU but be aware that these older models cant handle the new AV1 codec over the iGPU.

So if you want transcoding an AV1-file, its done over the CPU.

For transcoding an AV1 file over the iGPU, you need a S-1851 CPU - a Core Ultra 5 245 or bigger for example...
