Recently ditched Windows for CachyOS, worth it to switch from SMB to NFS?

Featured Replies

I recently decided I was done with Windows and their force-feeding of AI into eveything and after a couple weeks of dual booting with CachyOS to make sure I would be fine with it as a daily driver, I switched over to it completely. Right now, accessing my Unraid box works fine, but since I'm done with Windows, I'm wondering if it's worth it to switch over to NFS? In my searches I get some answers that really don't give a clear direction to go in so I'm hoping to get more of a consensus. Some people say the difference is minimal, some say it's a hassle to get it configured properly, some say it's the way to go with a Linux setup.

Right now, my Unraid box is primarily a Plex machine so I'm typically dealing with files of at leas a few GB. I do also use it for file storage and a thinking I should also set up Seafile on it to ditch OneDrive and maybe Immich as well. Also, while I'm not a complete Linux noob (I've tried several distros in the past: OpenSuse, Gentoo, Ubuntu) and am somewhat comfortable using the terminal with a guide, I'm really only a few steps away from being one.
