Jellyfin Transcoding - Arc Pro B50

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well.

I recently bought an Intel Arc Pro B50 (Battlemage) last year, but it was not supported by default on Unraid because of the older Linux kernels.

Since updating to Unraid 7.3.0 and the newer Linux kernels, the GPU is now correctly detected without any issues (visible in GPU Statistics / gpu-top).

My current hardware configuration is:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Vision D

  • GPU: Intel Arc Pro B50 (Battlemage)

However, I’m having a problem with Jellyfin: it is unable to properly use the GPU for hardware transcoding.

I already:

  • correctly added /dev/dri to the Jellyfin docker container

  • selected the correct GPU engine for transcoding

  • tested both VAAPI and Intel QSV

  • verified that the GPU is properly detected by the system

But Jellyfin fails as soon as a transcoding session starts.

I also noticed incompatibilities in the logs between:

  • Intel QSV

  • VAAPI

  • overlay_qsv

  • and the new Intel xe driver

At first, I tried forcing i915, but since my GPU is a Battlemage card, it seems to require the xe driver instead.

Is anyone already using an Arc Battlemage GPU (B50/B580/etc.) with Jellyfin on Unraid?

Do you have a stable configuration or any solution to make hardware transcoding work properly?

Thanks in advance

Which jellyfin container are you using? A better place for your questions could probably be found by clicking the jellyfin icon in your Unraid webUI and selecting Support.

Hello, thank you for your reply.
I am currently using the Jellyfin container from LinuxServer:

Jellyfin linuxserver Repository: lscr.io/linuxserver/jellyfin
Server version: 10.11.9

So did you try this?

That is the usual way to get to the correct support thread to post your questions about a particular container.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to post an update as I finally solved the issue.

The Jellyfin Docker container was not the problem. The root cause was actually a BIOS/Unraid compatibility issue with the Intel Arc Pro B50.

I also updated Unraid from 7.3.0 to 7.3.1, although I'm not certain this was strictly required.

The settings that fixed hardware transcoding for me were:

  • Above 4G Decoding → Enabled

  • Resizable BAR → Enabled

  • CSM → Disabled (UEFI only)

  • PCIe slot speed manually set to PCIe 4.0 instead of Auto

My hardware:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

  • Gigabyte B550 Vision D

  • Intel Arc Pro B50 (Battlemage)

After applying these BIOS settings and rebooting, Jellyfin was able to use the GPU correctly for hardware transcoding. VAAPI and Intel QSV are now working as expected.

Hopefully this helps anyone trying to use an Intel Arc Battlemage GPU (B50/B580, etc.) with Unraid and Jellyfin.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to help.

Witam wszystkich,

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

  • Gigabajt B550 Vision D

  • Intel Arc Pro B50 (Mag bojowy)

Po zastosowaniu tych ustawień BIOS-u i ponownym uruchomieniu Jellyfin był w stanie poprawnie użyć procesora graficznego do transkodowania sprzętu. VAAPI i Intel QSV działają teraz zgodnie z oczekiwaniami.

Mam nadzieję, że pomoże to każdemu, kto próbuje używać procesora graficznego Intel Arc Battlemage (B50/B580 itp.) z Unraid i Jellyfin.

Dziękujemy wszystkim, którzy poświęcili czas na pomoc.

How many simultaneous transcodes were you able to obtain?

I have ordered a b50 GPU but my motherboard bios does not support resizable bar. Is it vital in unraid to have this option in the bios to use this GPU? I plan on splitting the GPU using SR iov between windows vm's and docker. Thanks des.
