Reading unRaid drives in windows

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has (and probably will have) been discussed elsewhere, but i wasnt sure what to search on.

What software do i need to read my unRaid drives on a windows machine? I need to move some disks around, and easiest way is to use my windows machine as it is more native to me than linux.

Many Thanks

Jon

You can "read" your unRAID drives in windows, but there is no "write" support that I am aware of.

You can simply use Windows File Explorer from within windows.  This is by far the easiest.

or

(my suggestion) You can log onto unRAID via telnet and type "mc"  to invoke midnight commander.  It will allow you to move around your files fairly easliy.  If you use "putty" as your telnet client on your PC you can even use the mouse.  If you use the built-in telnet on your PC the function keys will not work (or the mouse) but you can use "Escape-1" through "Escape-0" to simulate functions keys 1 through 10.  (Escape followed by 1 = F1)  You can download "putty" here: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

or

You can install the reiserfs driver on your windows PC, physically move the unRAID data drive to the PC, and copy files from it.  (You cannot write to the drive, you can only read it on the PC)  The driver is here: http://p-nand-q.com/download/rfstool.html  There are GUI front ends available at http://yareg.akucom.de/ or http://www.wolfsheep.com/map/#RFSGUI

or

You can download ubuntu, boot it as a live CD on your PC (you do not need to install it, it can run entirely in memory), move the disks to your PC, and use the file explorer in ubuntu on your PC to read or write.  It has a graphical interface similar to windows file explorer, so you might feel comfortable with it.

Cheers for quick reply.

Joe's suggestion is my suggestion too, but you will need to mount each of your drives (NTFS) in unRAID, in turn.

This is covered in wiki.

I used http://yareg.akucom.de/ on Win 7 and it worked great.  It contains reiserfs so no need to download both.  You must run the exe as administrator.

also a confirm for Windows 7 Pro X64 ,,
