Intermittent Plex Issues Depending on Watch Method

Featured Replies

Hello. I have had my server setup for years and had the same setup - Plex watched through my AppleTV. All of a sudden in the last week, I was no longer able to watch content. All appeared normal in the Plex app (AppleTV) concerning my libraries, but whenever I tried to play something I've done some trial and error, but am clueless as to what it means.

  • When accessing Plex through my server via WebUI or Tailscale WebUI on my laptop I show that there are no remote access issues and am able to watch content.

  • When accessing Plex through my AppleTV I show I have access to my libraries but when selecting something to watch,I would get the never-ending loading animation. Sometimes it will stop spinning and provide a playback error and other times I will let it spin for 10+ minutes without it returning an error.

    • If I close out of the Plex app on AppleTV and try to access the app again, it will say that my server is unavailable. I check the remote access status on my laptop and all still shows as good to go. I close out of the Plex app, re-open it and now my libraries show as available again. I try to watch content and get the same never-ending loading behavior.

  • When accessing Plex from my mobile app, I get a message that my server is unavailable. I close out of the app and when I re-open it, its the same thing - server unavailable.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this or a general direction for me to investigate? I have looked all over and not been able to find anything that matches what I am experiencing.
