FENVI 10Gbps AQC113 Support?

Featured Replies

Greetings!

Just a shot in the dark.

I recently squired FENVI 10Gbps M.2 RJ45 adapter to use with my Unraid server. from AliExpress This board uses a Marvell AQC113 chip. And ran into basically the same issues as the following post:

Reading the replies there I noticed one of the Unraid moderators confirmed their case to have no driver support and will see about getting it implemented.

Would that be possible to implement this products Marvell_Linux_2.5.12 driver? Or at least is there a way I can install it myself?

Thanks!

The AQC113 is supported by the Linux kernel's built-in atlantic driver, which is included with Unraid, and there are other users running AQC113-based NICs without any extra driver.

So you shouldn't need the Marvell out-of-tree driver. Installing it manually isn't really practical anyway, since it would have to be compiled for the exact Unraid kernel and rebuilt with every update.

Please post the diagnostics zip (Tools > Diagnostics), downloaded after booting with the adapter installed, and also the output of:

lspci -nnk | grep -A3 -i ethernet

That will show whether the card is detected at all and whether a driver is loaded for it.

Hi,

That is surprising. At that point it should just work? I do know this controller works as I have tested it on a Windows PC, but wouldn't show up at all. This has been on my 'to fix' pile for a while, so I am having a hard time recalling every issue.

Thanks for the support.

Thanks for the diagnostics. The adapter is not detected at all, it doesn't show up on the PCIe bus, so this is not a driver issue. Any PCIe device should be listed by the system even without a driver, and there's no Marvell/Aquantia device in the diagnostics. A different driver wouldn't help.

Since it works in another PC, the problem is most likely the slot. Some things to check:

- Which M.2 slot is the adapter installed in? From the diagnostics, the CPU M.2 slot looks like it's being used by the ASM1166 SATA controller, so I assume the adapter is in the chipset M.2 slot.

- Check the board manual for that slot's lane sharing. On many boards an M.2 slot is disabled, or only works in SATA mode, when certain PCIe slots or SATA ports are in use. Also check the BIOS for any M.2/PCIe mode settings for that slot.

- Enter the BIOS and see whether the adapter is listed there. If the BIOS doesn't see it, Unraid won't either.

- If possible, try it in the other M.2 slot (temporarily swapping it with the ASM1166), or in a PCIe slot using an M.2-to-PCIe adapter.

- Also make sure the server was rebooted with the adapter installed. The diagnostics show the current boot started on Oct 29.

If you get it detected, post new diagnostics, it should then use the included atlantic driver.

Sorry for the delay. Busy night for me. I swapped the sata controller and the Nic, m.2 around, I still cannot seem to get it to show up.

If there isn't anything completely obvious that I am missing right now, I will look further into the bios settings tomorrow.

Thanks.

The swap did work for the ASM1166, it's now detected in the other M.2 slot, but the FENVI adapter still doesn't show up at all. Since the slot it's in now was working with the ASM1166, the slot itself should be fine, so this looks more like the adapter isn't able to establish a PCIe link on this board.

One more thing I noticed: the Tesla P40 and the add-in RTL8125 NIC are also missing from these diagnostics. Only the onboard RTL8125 and the I225-V are detected now, and the Nvidia driver can't find the GPU. If you didn't remove them on purpose, something likely got disturbed during the swap, so please reseat both.

For the FENVI adapter, when you check the BIOS tomorrow:

- See if the adapter is listed anywhere in the BIOS. If it isn't, Unraid won't see it either.

- Look for a link speed setting for the M.2 slot (on Gigabyte boards it's usually under Settings > IO Ports) and set it to Gen3 instead of Auto/Gen4. Many of these M.2 adapters use a ribbon cable to the RJ45 board, and these sometimes fail to link at Gen4. The PC where it worked may have been using Gen3.

- Check that the ribbon cable is firmly seated at both ends.

- If it still doesn't show up, try it in a PCIe slot using an M.2-to-PCIe adapter.

If it gets detected, please post new diagnostics.

Okay, I can confirm now this motherboard just does not like having a network on the M.2 and doesn't support it. I have tried various bios configurations, and even just booted a Windows install with the driver installed, just outright refused to use it. I did a sanity check on my PC which has its own built in 10G port which also happens to be a Marvel, showed up and worked without a hitch.

I will have to order in a PCIe adapter and that should just make it work. Hopefully..
