June 29, 201214 yr hello, i need to replace 4 1TB drives, with 4 2TB drives. i'm assuming i need to replace one, let parity rebuild the drive, then repeat the process with the other three. any shortcuts available ? None really... unless you have 4 extra ports and a fair amount of linux command line knowledge. (install the new drives in spare disk controller ports, preclear them, create unRAID compatible file-systems in each of the new, copy the old disks to the new, then stop the array, un-assign old, assign new, set new disk configuration and let it re-calculate parity on the new.) Only benefit, you have constant parity protection. Only drawback, need extra ports, and more likely of you typing the wrong command and accidentally wiping out your data on a disk you did not intend to format. You do realize the parity disk must already be a 2TB drive for you to replace the 1TB data drives with 2TB data drives...
June 29, 201214 yr Author i see how things go about the parity, yes .. i already have a 2TB parity drive will go for slow-but-sure, thanks Jose L.
