July 15, 201213 yr I have emailed support and got no solid solution to my problem - I was told to then check the forums. I then created a thread asking for assistance. Again, no help. I really like this product and would like to use it - but I need support on getting it working. I have already purchased more drives than the free version supports. Please can someone direct me in the right direction? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=21408.msg190237#msg190237
July 15, 201213 yr Did you do all the things mentioned in the other thread? Also, there is a google link with information about needing to disable PATA for the SATA drives etc.
July 16, 201213 yr Hi Aries, Beyond what has been said in that other thread - I'd recommend that if you intend to use unRaid, that you pick your hardware based on what other people here on the forums have successfully used. I guarantee you'll have a much better time with the product if you do that. There is simply no way to guarantee out of the box compatibility with the thousands of controller card options out there, so unless you are an above average linux user, I'd steer clear of hardware that hasn't been used before. If you're after a cheap 4 port SATA card (which it looks like you are) the Sil3114 would be a better (and guaranteed to work) choice. Do a search here on the forums on that option. EDIT - looking into it further, I'd suggest that the biggest hurdle with that card would be that it is made for RAID (0, 1 and 0+1) out of the box. You don't want RAID with unRaid.
July 16, 201213 yr the Sil3114 would be a better (and guaranteed to work) choice. Actually, some of them haven't been working lately. I suspect it's caused by a counterfit chipset.

The SIL3112 have been having issues. I have not heard about 3114 with issues. Not many use 3114. 4-port SATA HBA cards are priced so close to 8-port SATA HBA that usually makes more sense to get an 8-port card. The most economic way to get 4 ports is to use two 2-port PCI-e cards. Try to avoid using PCI. All PCI slots share bandwidth and can only support a single drive with good speed.
July 17, 201213 yr You are probably better off just dumping the card and going for one of the cards that is known to work. Controller cards, more than any other piece of hardware I'd say, are the hardware you really need to check here that they are supported before you buy.

LOL, actually, it's the SiL3132 based boards that sometimes have issues. Eventually we'll get the right part number. Best to pick one from this list. The 8-port boards or the 4-port 1430SA seem to be the best choices since it seems the 2-port boards may or may not work. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12404.0
